“I woke up one morning tired of watching, reading, and feeling non-human from the constant sharing of videos of Black People being killed by police. That sadness ran through my body, depressing me. Hearing songs about our struggle wasn’t uplifting me and in that moment encouraged a different need. A need to celebrate us as opposed to reminding us of our pain. I wanted to highlight our beauty, our excellence, our strength, our magic, and our joy. This song had to be a reminder to take pride in who we are regardless of what the world tries to label us as. That belief in ourselves, is the essence that kept us going and keeps us growing. We are blessed to be who we are, and we got lucky.”
